The art of Ann Ragland Bowns, a member of the art community in Sacramento since 1959, has encompassed a variety of media.
Watercolor, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, fabric-batik, and more recently painting on silk.
Ann has had a number of commissions for large-scale batiks, including four ten-foot wide renditions of Bible stories for the McClellan AFB.
Another large work was commissioned by the Art-in-Public-Places program and is located at the Ethel McLeod Hart Senior Center in Sacramento. A piece in this series was purchased by U.C. Davis and is Hanging in the meditation room at the medical center.
Ann's work has received numerous awards. She has done demonstrations at the State Fair at Cal-Expo, as well as, at various art groups in the area. Examples of her work are in three published books including, "The Best of Silk Painting," by North Light Books.
The richly colored dyes and feel of silk opened up a whole new venue for Ann’s creativity in this medium. Her most notable works have been the Yosemite art and she is an active member of the High Hand collaborative art group in Loomis where she often does demonstrations and workshops in dyeing on silk.
For those interested in experiencing the joy of silk painting first hand, Ann teaches private workshops in her home studio. For just $90 a person, Ann provides 3 hours of instruction, all the dyes, brushes, and a full length silk scarf that you will get to take home.
These workshops can be scheduled through the online contact section. Come experience the magic of silk painting and create your own work of art that you can show off wherever you go.
